Sound familiar?

The list that never ends

“I lie awake running through everything I haven't done.”
“Everything feels urgent, so I start nothing.”
“I know what to do. I just can't make myself start.”
“By 6 p.m., ‘what's for dinner?’ is one question too many.”
“Even on a day off, I feel I should be doing something.”
“I snap over a spilled drink, then feel awful about it.”

You're not lazy. You're not bad at this.

You're holding forty things in a head built for about four.

Where it comes from

Overwhelm isn't one thing.
It's six.

  • Body on alarmTight chest, short fuse. A stressed brain can't pick what's first.Section 1 · Calm first
  • A full headThe 2 a.m. remembering. Everything held, nothing written down.Section 2 · Empty your head
  • Too much to doA list that carries over every day and only gets longer.Section 3 · Cut it down
  • Can't startTasks too big, too vague or too dreaded to begin.Section 4 · Easy to start
  • Too many decisionsDinner, outfits, plans: decided from scratch, every day.Section 5 · Decide less
  • Never enough timeDays planned so tight one delay knocks everything over.Section 6 · Days that fit

A three-minute self-check shows which one is loudest for you, and which section to open first.

Questions

Before you buy

I'm already overwhelmed. Isn't a workbook one more thing?

It's built for that. The quick-start version takes about half an hour: a two-minute settle, a ten-minute brain dump, then sorting one page of it. Everything else can wait.

Is this the same as the Burnout Workbook?

No. Overwhelm is too much at once, right now. Burnout is the long-term exhaustion that rest doesn't fix. If a weekend off helps, start here. If it doesn't, see the Burnout Recovery Workbook.

What do I need to fill it in?

A free PDF app, like Adobe Acrobat Reader or Preview on a Mac. Or print it and use a pen. The daily and weekly pages are made to be printed again and again.

Does it work for home and work?

Yes. The brain dump and the five piles take everything: work, home, family, money, health and the vague worries in between.

Is this therapy?

No. It's a practical planning workbook, not medical advice. If overwhelm has gone on for weeks, or you're not sleeping, please talk to a doctor. In a crisis in the US, call or text 988.

What if it's not for me?
